Prepare for surgery
- Schedule a consultation at our Connecticut office
- Complete all of the pre-op paperwork
- You may be asked to have your primary care physician examine you to provide documentation that you are in good enough health to undergo surgical treatment
- You may also need certain blood tests and/or radiological exams. Dr. Ehrlich will decide which tests are required
Day of surgery
- Dr. Ehrlich and staff will give you detailed instructions for your day of surgery, which may include medication orders, when to arrive, what to bring, etc.
- The hospital will call you the afternoon before your surgery to confirm and give an exact arrival time.
- After you wake up from your procedure you will be taken to the recovery room.
- Depending on the procedure you have and overall general health you may stay up to two nights, although some procedures are done on an outpatient basis.
- Once you are ready to leave the hospital, you will receive full instructions for your care at home.
Life after surgery
- Immediately following surgery you will have to follow specific eating guidelines.Your doctor will explain in detail what foods you can and cannot eat.
- Once you have healed you can expand your diet although it is advised to follow the dietician's guidelines and eat a well balanced diet.
- Regular follow-up is a key to your success. Be sure to schedule your appointment well in advance and make an effort not to miss them.
- Attend support groups regularly for ongoing education, motivation and over all wellness.
